26 Practices

Poster Works

"26 Practice" is a series comprising twenty-six poster designs, each corresponding to one of the twenty-six chapters in A History of Graphic Design by Philip B. Meggs. This self-initiated project was conceived as a means of visually interpreting and reflecting upon the insights derived from reading each chapter.

The sole constraint imposed during the design process was the exclusive use of visual materials—namely illustrations—contained within the respective chapter as external graphic resources. Beyond this, no additional limitations were applied, allowing for creative freedom within a defined historical context.

This exercise ultimately transcends a mere academic engagement with graphic design history. It serves as a framework through which to explore and cultivate a personal visual language, rooted in the historical lineage of the discipline. In a contemporary design landscape increasingly shaped by the curated aesthetics of platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram, 26 Practice seeks to critically examine our habitual consumption of visual stimuli. It foregrounds the act of appropriation not as passive replication, but as an active, reflective, and historically informed process of making.
